How this calculator works
Fuel card savings are simply your fleet's monthly gallons multiplied by the per-gallon discount, minus any card fees. The calculator nets those off, annualizes the result, and shows your effective price per gallon so you can compare a discounted card price against paying cash or credit.
What discounts look like in practice
Across the 20 cards in our fuel card comparison, headline discounts range from a few cents per gallon on widely accepted cards (WEX, Chevron Texaco, ExxonMobil at around 3 to 6 cents) up to 25 to 53 cents on trucking-network cards such as RTS and TCS that are limited to a smaller set of stations. Fees also vary: some cards are free, others charge a small monthly per-card fee, and some add out-of-network transaction fees that this calculator's fee field can approximate.
Choosing the right card
Run the numbers twice: once with the discount you would get at in-network stations, and once with a realistic blended discount reflecting how often your routes actually pass those stations. High-discount, small-network cards win for drivers who run fixed lanes past participating truck stops; broad-network cards win for irregular routes.
