About Geotab

Geotab is the largest telematics provider in the world by connected vehicles, ranked first in ABI Research's assessments, and sells exclusively through authorized resellers. Its GO device and open platform are known for data depth, an extensive integration marketplace and best-in-class EV fleet tools; the reseller model means service quality and exact pricing vary by partner.

About Fleetio

Fleetio is fleet maintenance management software rather than a telematics system: it handles service schedules, work orders, inspections (DVIRs), parts, fuel logs and asset records, with unlimited users on every plan. It is software-only, pulls location and odometer data from telematics providers such as Samsara and Geotab via integrations, and offers flexible terms including monthly rolling contracts.

Geotab and Fleetio pricing

Because Geotab sells through resellers, prices vary, but 2026 estimates put base telematics at roughly $10 to $18 per vehicle per month, the lowest entry price among the majors, with the GO device commonly around $100 and richer plans and add-ons raising the monthly figure. Fleetio publishes its prices: in 2026 the Essential plan is about $4 per vehicle per month billed annually ($5 monthly), Professional $7 and Premium $10, with a 5-vehicle minimum and no hardware to buy. That makes it far cheaper than telematics platforms, because it solves a different problem. The calculator multiplies each side's per-vehicle subscription by your fleet size and contract length, adds upfront hardware, and compares contract totals, which is the only fair way to compare offers with different hardware and term structures.

How they compare

One is a telematics platform and the other is maintenance software, so this is a budget comparison rather than a substitute comparison: many fleets run both, connected by integration. Another complementary pair: Geotab generates the vehicle data and Fleetio turns it into maintenance workflows through its Geotab integration. Both are value leaders in their categories, so the combined per-vehicle cost is often still below a single premium all-in-one platform, which is exactly the comparison worth running here.
